Independence Day Mushaira

Shaiqeen-e-Fun Doha Qatar recently organized a prestigious online Independence Day Mushaira (poetry symposium), bringing together poets and literature enthusiasts from Qatar and different cities of Pakistan to celebrate the country’s independence through Urdu poetry.
The event was held under the patronage of Muhammad Aamir, Pakistan’s ambassador to Qatar. Welfare Attaché Usama Idrees, on behalf of the ambassador, participated in the programme and conveyed his message to the organizers and participants.
The online literary gathering provided an opportunity for overseas Pakistanis to express their love for Pakistan, celebrate national identity and reaffirm their connection with Urdu language, literature and cultural traditions. A large number of poetry lovers and distinguished poets joined the session through Zoom, stated Shaiqeen-e-Fun Doha in a press release.
The programme commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Chairman Shaiqeen-e-Fun Doha Muhammad Atiq welcomed the ambassador’s representative, the Mushaira’s presiding poet, participating poets and literary enthusiasts. He congratulated the participants on Independence Day and appreciated the efforts of Pakistani writers living abroad to preserve their linguistic and cultural links with their homeland.
Speaking on behalf of the ambassador, Welfare Attaché Usama Idrees appreciated the organization of the literary event and stressed the importance of such activities for overseas Pakistanis. He said cultural and literary gatherings played an important role in keeping Pakistani communities connected with their national identity, cultural values and language. He also conveyed the ambassador’s good wishes to the organizers and paid tribute to the participating poets for promoting patriotism and national unity through their poetry.
Renowned poet Dr Pirzada Qasim presided over the Mushaira, while Shakeel Jazib conducted the proceedings in an engaging and graceful manner. Poets; Azhar Abbas, Ambreen Haseeb Amber, Tariq Sabzwari, Farzana Safdar, Raza Hussain Raza, Asif Shafi and Sanwal Abbasi presented their selected poetry.
The poets highlighted themes including love for Pakistan, the value of independence, national unity, memories of the homeland and hopes for a brighter future. Asif Shafi also presented Naat in connection with the blessed month of Rabi-ul-Awwal, adding a spiritual dimension to the literary evening.
President Shaiqeen-e-Fun Doha Nawaz Akram, in his presidential address, spoke about the significance of independence, national responsibilities and the role of literature in society. He described freedom as both a great blessing and a major responsibility, stressing the need to continue literary activities that promote Urdu and connect younger generations with their national and cultural heritage.
General Secretary Qamar Bhatti concluded the event with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all guests, poets, organisers and participants.
The Mushaira demonstrated that geographical distance cannot weaken the emotional bond between overseas Pakistanis and their homeland. Through poetry, language and cultural expression, the virtual gathering brought the spirit of Pakistan closer to the Pakistani community in Qatar and reaffirmed the enduring role of literature in keeping national identity alive abroad.
