PAL Gives back to Welcoming Uganda by
Humanitarian Service, Community Engagement
Pakistan Association Lira has become an important channel to contribute to Ugandan

Far from Pakistan, members of the Pakistanis in Lira are making their presence felt not only through business and professional activities but also through humanitarian service, community engagement and efforts to strengthen relations between Pakistan and Uganda.
Pakistan Association Lira (PAL) has emerged as an active community organization serving Pakistanis living in Lira city and the wider Lango sub-region. Its activities reflect a growing commitment to giving back to the local communities that have welcomed Pakistani entrepreneurs and families over the years.
Healthcare has been one of the association’s most significant areas of social contribution. In partnership with the Overseas Pakistanis Global Foundation Africa, the association has supported free eye-care and cataract surgery camps in Lira. Earlier camps attracted hundreds of patients, while subsequent initiatives expanded the programme considerably. According to information released by Ugandan health authorities, free eye camps supported by the association and its partners in 2022, 2023 and 2025 provided surgery and specialized care to thousands of patients.
PAL has also maintained a strong focus on vulnerable children. In January 2026, it donated food and essential supplies to Lira Babies Home, which was caring for 62 abandoned children. Such initiatives demonstrate the Pakistani community’s willingness to contribute to local welfare beyond its own membership.
Community support has extended to other areas as well. In July 2026, the association donated footballs and netballs to the North Kyoga Regional Police to support preparations for the annual Inspector General of Police Cup. The initiative highlighted the association’s efforts to build positive relationships with local institutions through sport and community partnerships.
Environmental responsibility has also featured in the association’s recent activities. In August 2026, members participated in a clean-up exercise along Kwania Road in Lira City as part of Uganda’s National Cleaning Day initiative. PAL President Muhammad Ateeq Nawaz said the Pakistani community would continue supporting initiatives aimed at improving sanitation and making Lira a cleaner city.
The association has additionally played a role in promoting Pakistan’s cultural identity abroad. In August 2026, the Pakistani community in Lira marked Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day, using the occasion to celebrate national heritage and reinforce friendship between Pakistan and Uganda.
For Pakistanis in Lira, the association represents more than a social platform. Through healthcare initiatives, welfare assistance, sports partnerships, environmental activities and cultural engagement, it has become an important channel through which the Pakistani community contributes to Ugandan society while keeping its national identity alive.
