Embassy in Paris recently hosted a reception to commemorate Pakistan’s Defence and Martyrs Day, paying tribute to the sacrifices of the country’s armed forces and civilians in defence of the nation.
The event was attended by Senator Allizard, members of the diplomatic corps, officers of the armed forces and several friends of Pakistan.
In her welcome remarks, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, ambassador of Pakistan to France, paid rich tribute to the martyrs and veterans of Pakistan’s Armed Forces, acknowledging their service and sacrifices. She said the armed forces remained guarantors of Pakistan’s national security and noted that the nation continued to stand alongside its defenders.
Recalling Pakistan’s defence during the 1965 war and the military response to Indian aggression in May last year, Ambassador Baloch highlighted what she described as the resolve, precision and professionalism of Pakistan’s Armed Forces.
She also underscored Pakistan’s contribution to regional and global peace, particularly through United Nations peacekeeping missions.
The ambassador noted that Pakistan’s national defence over the past two decades had extended beyond conventional warfare to include the fight against terrorism. She said armed forces personnel, law-enforcement officials and civilians had made significant sacrifices in this struggle.
Ambassador Baloch reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to dialogue, international cooperation and international law, saying the country sought peaceful and mutually respectful relations with all its neighbours while maintaining its national defence.
She stressed that lasting peace in South Asia required resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
