Pakistan Embassy Hosts Dialogue on
Indus Waters Treaty in Washington

Embassy of Pakistan in Washington, D.C., recently hosted a policy dialogue on ‘The Indus Waters Treaty: South Asian Security at Crossroads.’
The well-attended event, under the Pakistan Embassy Forum series, brought together experts, scholars, practitioners, and diplomats to discuss and disseminate the significance of the over six-decades-old treaty for the lives and livelihoods of over 1.5 billion of the two South Asian neighbors, said the embassy in a press release.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar emphasized the legal sanctity of the treaty, warning against unilateral actions and calling for the restoration of technical engagement and data-sharing.
Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, ambassador of Pakistan to US, reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to rules-based diplomacy for resolution of disputes. He emphasized that there was no crisis of content in the Indus Waters Treaty but a crisis of intent with regard to its implementation by India.
The participants, during the three sub-thematic panels, agreed that adherence to the treaty obligations by both parties remained vital to regional peace and stability as well as economic security in South Asia.
