Pakistan Embassy Holds Musical Evening
in Tashkent to Mark 500 Years of Mughals

Embassy of Pakistan in Tashkent recently hosted a cultural musical event to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the establishment of Mughal (Baburid) Empire in sub-continent.
The event featured a captivating performance by Pakistan’s renowned folk fusion band, Khumariyaan. The event was widely attended by members of the diplomatic corps, academia, cultural enthusiasts, Uzbek guests, and Pakistani diaspora.
In her opening remarks, Maha Shafiq, Chargé d’Affaires of Pakistan, underlined that the Mughal (Baburid) Empire, founded by Zahir-ud-Din Muhammad Babur, stands as a shared historical legacy linking present-day Uzbekistan and Pakistan. She noted that the Mughal Empire fostered a rich cultural tradition in which music flourished as a powerful expression of identity and creativity.
She also highlighted that folk traditions from Central Asia, including the evocative melodies of the Rubab – an instrument closely associated with the broader musical cultures of Central Asia – influenced the evolving soundscape of Pakistan through centuries of cultural exchange.
The event featured an enthralling performance by Khumariyaan, whose fusion of traditional Pakistani folk music with contemporary rhythms captivated the audience. Their performance was met with appreciation, with guests enjoying an evening that celebrated legacy of the Mughal Empire as well as the shared cultural heritage and musical traditions that continue to connect Pakistan and Uzbekistan. The guests also enjoyed learning the Attan folk dance.
The event concluded on a warm and festive note, reaffirming the embassy’s commitment to promoting cultural diplomacy and further strengthening the longstanding friendship between the two countries through people-to-people and cultural exchanges.
