In a press release, Pakistan embassy in Bucharest stated the event was attended by representatives of Pakistani and Romanian companies and other stakeholders from various sectors, including Doru-Claudian Frunzulică, vice president of Romanian Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade (ARICE); Professor Cristina-Emanuela Dascălu, PhD, member of Romania’s Chamber of Deputies; and Irina Bogdan from the Asia-Pacific and Latin America Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The forum was addressed by Ovidiu Ioan Silaghi, secretary general of CCIR; Atif Farooqi, leader of the business delegation from Pakistan; and Ilyas Mehmood Nizami, ambassador of Pakistan to Romania. A video message of Dr. Dan Stoenescu, ambassador of Romania to Pakistan, was also played.

In his remarks, Ambassador Ilyas Nizami underscored the forum’s importance as a valuable platform to promote contacts between the business enterprises of Pakistan and Romania. He said that Pakistan, being the fifth most populous country in the world, offered a huge market to foreign businessmen, with significant import and export opportunities. He stated that Pakistan’s demographics made it an important source of workers and professionals alike. He maintained that Pakistan’s strategic location at the crossroads of the Middle East, Central Asia and South Asia as well as its proximity and Free Trade Agreement with China position it as an attractive hub of regional connectivity.

The ambassador spoke at length about the possibilities of mutually-beneficial cooperation between Pakistan and Romania in the areas of solar energy, IT services, infrastructure development, agriculture, connectivity, defence production and education. He briefed the participants about the incentives being offered by the Government of Pakistan to foreign investors and the platforms like the Special Investment Facilitation Council, which are aimed at facilitating the enterprises from abroad. He also assured the audience that he and his team at the embassy remain committed to facilitating the business linkages between Pakistan and Romania.

The statements at the event were followed by various B2B meetings.
