Pakistan Envoy Attends ‘Food under
Fire’ Workshop in South Africa

Malik Muhammad Farooq, high commissioner (HC) of Pakistan to South Africa, recently participated in a workshop of present and incoming non-permanent members (E10) of the UN Security Council on the theme ‘Food Under Fire – How do we mitigate global and local food crises?’, co-hosted by the embassy of Denmark in Pretoria and Department of International Relations and Cooperation South Africa.
The discussion focused on the growing challenges of food insecurity, particularly in conflict-affected settings, and the importance of protecting food systems and strengthening collective international responses to global and local food crises, the high commission said in a statement on social media.
The high commissioner highlighted the importance of sustained international cooperation and constructive engagement in addressing food insecurity and its humanitarian consequences.
Outlining the close link between water and food security, particularly for countries dependent on trans-boundary water resources, he briefed participants on the current situation concerning the Indus Waters Treaty and stressed the importance of respecting established water-sharing arrangements for food security, livelihoods and regional stability.
Pakistan remains committed to contributing to multilateral efforts aimed at promoting food security, protecting vulnerable populations and advancing international peace and security.
