Embassy Marks 150th Birth Anniversary of Jinnah,
80th Independence Day with Mushaira in Madrid

Embassy of Pakistan in Madrid, Spain recently organized a special Mushaira (Urdu poetry symposium) and cultural event to commemorate Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah Year, marking the 150th birth anniversary of the founding father, alongside Pakistan’s 80th Independence Day.
Renowned poet Nisar Turabi, winner of the 2014 Radio Pakistan National Songs Competition, graced the occasion as the special guest. Alongside him, prominent poets including Sabir Raza, Tahir Hafiz, Nayyar Iqbal Najmi, and Ishfaq Ahmed recited mili-naghmay (national songs) and literary works reflecting the nation’s heritage, noted a press release by the embassy.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Zahoor Ahmed, ambassador of Pakistan to Spain, emphasized the enduring legacy and vision of the father of the nation. Highlighting the historical depth of Urdu literature, he noted the famous saying that the Mughal era gifted the region three iconic treasures: the Taj Mahal, Mirza Ghalib, and the Urdu language.
To mark 500 years since the foundation of the Mughal era in sub-continent, a pictorial exhibition was set up alongside a display of historical photographs of Quaid-e-Azam.
The embassy also organized portrait sketching and essay-writing competitions for children. During the event, Ambassador Ahmed distributed commemorative shields to young winners, recognizing Muhammad Moosa for sketching, while Muhammad Waleed and Raeesa Saqib were acknowledged for presenting essays in Spanish and Urdu, respectively.
The gathering brought together members of the Pakistani diaspora in Spain to pay tribute to the nation’s founding father and celebrate its rich literary traditions.
