Pakistan-origin Canadian MP Says Family Safe

in Arson Attack outside Toronto Residence

Two vehicles belonging to Pakistani-Canadian Member of Parliament Salma Zahid were targeted and destroyed in an arson attack outside her residence in Scarborough on August 27 night.

In a recent formal statement released, MP Zahid, who represents Scarborough Centre–Don Valley East, confirmed that an unidentified individual set fire to her personal vehicle and another car parked on her property.

“My son noticed the fire and we called 911, as did our neighbours,” Zahid stated. “Toronto Fire Services responded promptly to the call and extinguished the fires. Both vehicles were destroyed. There was no damage to the home. My family and I are all safe.”

The Toronto Police Service and Toronto Fire Services have launched a joint investigation, treating the incident as a deliberate act of arson. The matter has been referred to Toronto Police 43 Division.

Expressing gratitude to first responders and neighbors, the MP remained firm in her commitment to her public duties. “I don’t want to speculate on a possible motive. We will await the results of the investigation,” she said. “But such attacks are unacceptable and will not deter me from my work serving Scarborough Centre-Don Valley East.”

Law enforcement agencies in Toronto have urged anyone with security camera footage or relevant information regarding the suspect to step forward as investigations remain ongoing.
